Today we announced a new device, Boxee TV, that will be available exclusively in the US this November. It brings together Live TV, Internet Apps and a first-of-its-kind Cloud DVR. The new device is running a new chipset from Broadcom and software that we wrote from the ground up. You can read more about it here.
At the same time, we are also working to release a separate update to the Boxee Box to update the Flash player and fix some key bugs. After this update the Boxee Box will go into maintenance mode. We will discontinue its distribution and will not be releasing any additional major updates.
The Boxee Box launched in Nov. 2010, and it was an exciting milestone for us. Since Boxee started, we wanted to see it running on a dedicated device and our partnership with D-Link made it happen.
Over the past couple of years we have released several major updates, numerous minor updates and added hundreds of apps. Earlier this year we launched Boxee Live TV, which added the ability to access over-the-air broadcast and the basic tier of cable (Clear QAM) in North America.
Our small team has poured our hearts and souls into the Boxee Box and it has been great to meet users from all over the globe. Some loved it, some wanted more features, others complained, but everyone was passionate. We hope you have enjoyed it and will continue to use it in your living rooms, dens, bedrooms or wherever else you set it up (I met one guy who installed it in his yacht!). If you are living in the US, we would love for you to continue our journey with us and order Boxee TV when it comes out.

Sorry but That is really lousy service. I don't demand frequent updates each month or so but I mean… Seriously, come on Dlink and team Boxee. You can't be serious about discontinuing this piece of hardware after such a short period on the market? That is extremely unprofessional and you will loose (until now) loyal customers

I just bought a boxee box in september this year, and i feel like you want the money, but not satisfied customers. It is not working prober, and now i see that you wont do any new updates. I feel betrayed. I will never invest in your products any more, and will not recomend anybody to support you. You are a disgrace to all the people who had stand up for you past the years.
I will be happy to see a Box update that will fix the flash player problem, though I do tend to think I'll believe it when I see it.
However, I definitely second the many, many people who have suggested that the Box be opened up to third-party open-source development. I can imagine there might be contractual considerations in doing this, but I think you would leave Box owners with a better taste in our mouths if you did this, even if it cost a certain amount of money to achieve.
Repeat business is normally a significant part of a company's income, and as it stands at present it would appear that Boxee's reputation is rather low within the community of potential purchasers for a new product. Making arrangements to clear the Box for third parties would help address this. You have little to lose anyway – your next product will be US-only and offers a feature set that only marginally overlaps the capabilities of the Box.
Be nice to your customers, and you might see them again – and you need them. Open the Box!

Well i am just a user, but we are thousands feeling that this decision is the last nail to the coffin.
I guess that our opinion, the users, its the least important thing to the Boxee crew.
To proof it, you just need to visit jira.boxee.tv and click any top ticket, and check the dates.

Just got a BB one month ago as i heard that it was soooo good and a great product.. Now they wont support netflix other than in NA and they will discontinue the product.. I bought two. I got fucked twice.
You have got to be fucking kidding me…..I've owned my Boxee Box for less than 6 months and I have one on the way as a Christmas gift. That's $400 and neither are worth the package they came in. The Boxee website is never updated unless it's a post about another scam in the works. To be truthful, this thing is very buggy and I should have saw the writing on the wall when there's not been an update the whole time I've owned it. Shame on me for buying this hunk of shit, and shame on D-Link for agreeing to work with you scam artists. The only reason I'm not tossing this brick is to wait and see if you dildos make it open source, which we know you won't. I know others who are happy with their box will bash me for this post, but realize I've owned mine for 6 months and just bought another one. I will see you guys in Hell before I give you another dime of my money. I will now do what I should have in the first place, which is build a HTPC and use XBMC, a far far far superior piece of software compared to Boxee.
So, i won't go into details how pissed i am, because i am just like so many other customers here. So 'nuff said on that. But do, please, explain something to me. EVERY release you had so far for the Box fixed something, but broke even more. So, i expect it will be no different with the next "major" one. That effectively means you will break our Boxes on purpose! (almost, joke, get my point?). So, please please please …. just don't do that! Leave it as it is. It plays. It works. Don't fix anything, just open it and get rid of all the premium content which international users can't use anyway. Again, please, do not fix anything if you are not sure you're not going to break even more! Please.

Hope you fail…..I don't appreciate being burned so will ensure I waste my time now on notifying as many people as possible, what a piece of shit this company is. I think you'll be surprised how many people base their purchase decisions on reviews. I wasted fuckin hours getting this thing to function half arsed like it does today, so it's little effort for forum users to trash this product as much as possible after what is quite frankly a 'criminal' decision. I feel so sorry for people that brought this product in the last year and you fully knew that you would be dumping it. Unlock this box so I don't feel like you actually stole $400 from me for my two devices.
Boxee users, thanks for all the help and support you gave me since the beginning of the box. It's been eventful to say the least. I thought I was doing the right thing supporting the small guy but how much do I regret that decision now.

Apparently they can't bothered to spent the couple of hours it would take to update Netflix so it covers Scandinavia either.
